Skills Recognition is the term used to describe a number of assessment processes resulting from the formal recognition of competencies that you have acquired through work, informal training and life experience. You will be asked to provide evidence that you have the skills and knowledge required by a set of national competency standards.
You may be assessed in a number of ways, for example:
- Observation of your work (practical performance).
- Portfolio of evidence.
- Theoretical testing.
At the Australian College of Beauty Therapy you could be recognised for your skills through one of the following process:
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Credit Transfer
- National Recognition.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is the assessment process that assesses the individual, regardless of how or where these skills may have been attained, through non-formal or formal learning to determine the extent of which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to and/or partial or total completion of a qualification.
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer involves assessing a previously completed course or unit to determined the extent to which it is equivalent to the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes or standards to those required within the current qualification or unit.
National Recognition
You do not have to repeat any course or units you have completed, if you can provide an original or certified copy of your certificate and/or statement of attainment showing completed course or units that is issued by a registered training organisation (RTO), anywhere within Australia that is part of the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).
If you are successful with any of the assessment processes, you will be given credit towards the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification.
